Browse through the Settings window to see how providers, bundles, hotkeys, and the collector work together. Every feature is designed to be self-explanatory.
Add any search-based website as a lookup provider. Just paste the URL and replace the search term with {query}. Term Butler ships with popular dictionaries like dict.cc, Linguee, LEO, Duden, and more — but you can add client-specific termbases, MT engines, or any website that accepts a search query in the URL.
Group multiple providers into a single bundle, then trigger them all with one hotkey. For example, a "Multi lookup" bundle could open dict.cc, Linguee, LEO, and Pons simultaneously. Choose whether results open in separate tabs, a split view, or a new browser window. Drag to reorder.

Assign global keyboard shortcuts to built-in actions (add to collector, paste to Word, character counter) and to each of your bundles. Hotkeys work from any application — select a word in your CAT tool, press your shortcut, and the lookup opens instantly. No switching windows, no copying and pasting URLs.

Configure the collector's behavior: enable HUD notifications, auto-restore your clipboard after pasting, and set the separator style between collected snippets. The "Collect & Advance" feature integrates directly with your CAT tool — it collects the current segment and sends the confirm keystroke to advance to the next one. Supports memoQ, Trados, Phrase, Across, Smartcat, XTM, CafeTran, and more.

Select any text and press your hotkey to instantly see word count, character count (including spaces), and width equivalents for W and A characters. Perfect for checking length restrictions in UI translations, metadata, or any content with character limits. The floating HUD appears near your cursor and dismisses with a click.

Save your entire configuration — providers, bundles, hotkeys, and collector settings — to a single JSON file. Share it with colleagues so everyone gets the same setup instantly, back it up before making changes, or transfer your configuration to a new Mac. Import restores everything in one click.

Browse nearly 300 built-in dictionaries, encyclopedias, and reference sites without having to search for URLs yourself. Filter by language (e.g. Japanese, French, German) and by resource type (Dictionary, Corpus, Encyclopedia, Translation Portal, and more). Tick the ones you want and click Import — they are added to your Providers list instantly, ready to use.

Define short codes for phrases you type repeatedly. Type the code anywhere — in your CAT tool, email client, or any text field — and Term Butler replaces it with the full text automatically. For example, tbr expands to "Thanks and best regards,…". Codes ending with # require you to press a confirm key first, so they never fire by accident.
Select a measurement value in any document — such as "20 ft" — and press your hotkey. A floating panel appears right next to your cursor showing the equivalent values in all related units at once (metres, centimetres, and so on). Works for length, mass, volume, temperature, speed, area, and pressure. No switching to a browser, no copy-pasting. Click anywhere to dismiss.

Save up to 10 websites you visit regularly — client portals, style guides, AI tools, reference pages — and open any of them in one step from the menu bar. Each entry gets a number (1–10) for instant keyboard access via the popup, and you can assign a dedicated global hotkey to your most-used ones so they open without even touching the menu.
